Compassion ~ Equanimity ~ Resilience
Approach
Candace Eddy Rhodes is a Linehan Board Certified DBT Therapist specializing in the evidence-based treatment of severe emotion dysregulation and complex trauma. Candace believes that change must first come from compassionate and nonjudgmental understanding of one’s difficulties. Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy, including DBT for PTSD, combined with mindfulness and self-compassion, clients begin to understand and make sense of their emotions and behaviors in the context of their life experiences. In her approach, Candace balances these acceptance strategies with tools to make meaningful and lasting change, including techniques for distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. When working with parents of youth with emotion dysregulation, Candace incorporates DBT skills to help individuals parent from their goals, values, and parental wise mind.

Candace Eddy Rhodes, LICSW
“Before treatment, I was constantly stuck in my past experiences of trauma. The symptoms I had caused me great suffering and impacted every area of my life. I was stuck in a pattern of getting completely overwhelmed and then retreating and avoiding everything. I engaged in a lot of negative behaviors to escape the feelings I was having. The world felt scary and dangerous. Going through trauma treatment taught me that I am stronger and more resilient than I realized, and helped me learn that what happened to me wasn’t actually my fault, even though I’d been blaming myself my whole life. I learned that processing the memories with Candace wasn’t dangerous, and it helped me let go of all the emotions and pain I had been bottling up. I didn’t have to keep shoving everything down. Don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t easy, and I wanted to quit so many times! I’m so glad I didn’t. Now I’m back in my life, and I have the tools to live the life I want according to my values.”
